Capital Supports under the NDIS provide funding for essential equipment, modifications, and technologies that enhance a participant’s independence, safety, and ability to engage in daily activities. These supports are designed to improve accessibility and reduce the long-term need for other forms of support.

.Types of Capital Supports:

NDIS Goals: Increases participation in community activities and reduces reliance on personal care.

Assistive Technology

Purpose: Funding for devices that help participants perform daily tasks more independently.

Examples: Wheelchairs, hearing aids, communication devices, mobility aids, or smart home technologies.

Home Modifications

NDIS Goals: Supports greater independence and mobility within the home environment.

Purpose: Funding for physical changes to the home that improve accessibility and safety.

Examples: Ramps, handrails, widened doorways, or bathroom modifications.

Vehicle Modifications

  • Purpose: Funding for modifications to vehicles that enable safe and accessible transport.
  • Examples: Wheelchair-accessible vehicles, hand controls, or lift installations.
  • NDIS Goals: Supports increased mobility and community participation.

Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA)

  • Purpose: Funding for secure, suitable housing for participants with significant disabilities.
  • Examples: Custom-built or adapted homes designed to meet specific needs.
